How to choose the Best Headphones for Sleeping

Lots of people have problems getting to sleep easily and over the years they have tried everything for a good nights rest.  One method that seems to get a lot of good results is listening to music, white noise or ASMR whilst trying to nod off.  Sadly most headphones and earphones are not designed for sleeping and can cause significant discomfort if left in.  Many users use them to get to sleep but then have to wake up again once they roll onto their side or front.

So what should you look for when you are trying to select the best headphones for sleeping? Well, we are going to cover that in this article and give you 10 options for headphones and earphones that will help you get a full nights sleep.

Options when buying headphones for sleeping in 2019

Thankfully many companies have stepped up to meet demand and have started designing headphones specifically for use when trying to fall asleep.  They incorporate a lot of features that are designed to enhance your slumber and whilst they might not be so good for other tasks as a set of sleeping headphones they will be extremely functional.

We are going to break the buying process into a few different sections and product categories to help find the right set for you.  Take a moment to think about how you sleep and what will match your needs best before making a purchase and if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment down below and we can do our best to advise you on the right choice.

Build Quality

Most headphones will be used whilst you are awake and thus are not put under the strain or abuse that you might put you sleeping headphones through.  When you sleep you will be making contact with the pillow as well as turning and rolling.  This can cause significant wear and strain on ordinary headphones so you are going to need something that is either tough and durable enough to take the abuse or something that is specifically designed to be used in such a way.

Are they comfortable to wear all night long?

This is the most important factor.  After all, if you aren’t comfortable you are going to have problems falling asleep quickly and even more trouble trying to stay asleep. You want something that you would be happy to wear when you try to get your full of 8 hours of sleep without experiencing pain or discomfort.  If you have any issues with particular styles of headphones during the day then you can bet that this will be amplified at night.

Is sound important when choosing a set of headphones for sleeping?

The sound is hugely important when choosing a set of headphones but when choosing them to sleep in your priorities should be somewhat different.  In this case, you shouldn’t worry about out and out fidelity but rather you should be looking for something that doesn’t do anything jarring or annoying that might put you off your sleep.  Examples of this could be a distracting background hiss or even a sharp treble spike.  Both of these can be off putting enough that you start thinking about the sound rather than drifting off.

When it comes to sound you want your headphones or earphones to be smooth and inoffensive.  Neutral and balanced headphones with low impedance do well here but I also would look past a set of headphones with toned down high notes.

Over-Ear Headphones vs. On-Ear Headphones vs. In-ear headphones

Not all headphone styles are best suited for sleeping and you will probably have a good idea from the start what you are looking for.  A bulky full-size set of headphones is going to have trouble staying on your head and thus give you very little room for movement.  A set of in-ear headphones (earphones) may push to deep into the canal if you sleep on your side.

That said there are workarounds for existing designs and some models that will work better than others and we have included them below. Additionally, there are a number of companies that have designed earphones especially for the purpose of sleeping.  Some of these are rather unique and no the thing you would want to be seen on the street with but for use in bed they are awesome.

Try these solutions instead

Before I run down the list of the 10 best headphones for sleeping I thought I would also give you a couple of other options that might help you to get to sleep a bit easier.  Some of these have worked well for me in the past soi think they are well worth mentioning.

Foam Earplugs

No not the set you got at a hotel or some other rubbish off-cut of foam.  After trying lots of different noise-blocking earplugs in the past I have pretty much settled on the perfect ones.  The Howard Leight Laser Lite Plugs.

Don’t be tempted by any other brand or even HL’s own higher decibel rated models, the ones you want are the yellow and pink laser lite model.  These are by far the best and comfiest earplugs I have ever used for sleeping and I highly recommend them.  They last upwards of 10 uses per set and a box of 200 pairs should only cost you about $20, so you can buy in bulk on these and save big.

Custom Molded Earplugs

I had some success with custom molded earplugs in the past even though I now prefer the disposable kind mentioned above.  I recommend trying the Decibullz Custom Molded Earplugs . These are a set of DIY custom molds that you make at home and they fit exactly to your outer ear.  The process is a bit tricky so get some help if you think you need it but all in it takes about 10 mins to set them into a reusable set or earplugs that block out a lot of external noise.

Pyle Bluetooth Pillow Speaker

Sometimes I wish I could be single again just to go back to using the Pyle pillow speaker.  For about a year this was my solution to a good nights rest.  One of the problems with using say a bedside speaker is that the sound is mono-directional.  The Pyle solves this by placing a left and right speaker inside your pillow.  I really started appreciating it when listening to ambient noise recording but obviously, it isn’t a viable solution if you share a bed with someone.

How much should I spend?

I would say that you can get away with your sleeping headphones being pretty cheap.  They are after all there to help you get to sleep and when you are asleep you won’t be doing the much critical listening.  The good news is that most of the companies that are making sleep specific headphones don’t charge an arm and a leg for it.

Special note: Bose Sleepbuds

Since this review was originally published I have had a lot of people ask me what my thoughts are on the new Bose Sleepbuds. I have been testing these sleeping earbuds for the past few months and have to admit they are pretty great. In fact they have given me some of the best nights sleep I have had in years. They have a number of very cool functions and you can read more real user impressions about them on the sleepbuds amazon page and more product information at the Bose Sleepbuds page.

We ill have a full review up soon and generally after some teething our impressions are positive. That said they are extremely expensive in comparison with the headphones listed bellow. They are the pinnacle when it comes to headphones for sleeping but by no means are they the only option out there.

10 Best Studio Headphones for Recording

Monitoring and mixing music can be tricky. Using studio monitors will let you listen to your mixes in the most natural and comfortable way, but the question lies in how much accuracy.

This is where studio headphones come help. While only very premium studio monitors can help monitor the tiny details, less expensive headphones can help you monitor the smallest details from background noise, offensive frequencies, to subtle volume changes, which you may miss if you’re monitoring with regular speakers or cheaper studio monitors.

For audio engineers, music producers and artists on a tight budget, using headphones will get the job done if you’re just starting out.

Although I’ll never advise you to mix and master with headphones alone, having a pair of transparent-sounding cans will be a reliable addition to help you make better mixes.

Closed-back vs. Open-back – Which One Should You Choose?

The two types of commonly used headphones in studios; closed-back and open-back headphones. Closed-back headphones are completely sealed around the back which enables noise cancellation from the outside and vice-versa, while open-back or semi-open ones aren’t sealed but lets you hear music more naturally.

When it comes to choosing which type is right for you, it will be good to consider these factors:

  • If you’re using it to track music while recording, choose a closed-back headphone. You don’t want sound leakage from your cans to be recorded by the microphone.
  • Casual listening or for mixing and mastering? Then an open-back or semi-open headphones might fit the job better, as they are usually more natural sounding. It also gives you a more pleasurable listening experience, which means you’ll be able to work longer on them.

Pros and Cons of Trying to Mix and Master on Headphones

No matter the type of headphones you use, there will always be some pros and cons – especially when it comes to mixing and mastering.

Pros for mixing on headphones:

  • Gives you better attention to mixing detail.
  • Monitoring subtle details in volume, pitch, distortion, noise, etc.
  • More affordable than buying a pair of studio monitors – especially if you’re just starting your studio.

  • Faster ear fatigue with long mixing sessions.
  • Unnatural way of hearing music which might influence how your mixes translate on other playback devices.

Now that you have a background of what to expect as well as other factors to consider, here is a list of headphones that are worth buying in 2019:

1 – Sennheiser HD 650

Starting with one of the most high-end studio headphones, the Sennheiser HD 650 (open back) is on the higher end but could be worth your money. Besides the elegant titanium-silver finish, it is known to produce a balanced, transparent & spatial sound, specially optimized for high-resolution monitoring. You’ll find that it’s a favorite among mixing and mastering engineers.

When it comes to the sound, the bass is smooth while the mids and highs are clear enough to give you a balanced reference. Remember that this one is an open-back headphone, so people around you can hear what you’re listening to. That aside, rest assured that The Sennheiser HD 650 is one of the most comfortable studio monitor headphones around.

  • High-end studio headphones, popular among audio engineers and audiophiles.
  • Smooth bass, clear mids, and highs.
  • Open-back type which is suitable for mixing and mastering, but not suggested for recording sessions.

2 – Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro

Another open-back favorite used by many home studio producers and engineers, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro gives you a transparent sound, with an impressive soundstage, good bass response, and detailed clarity. Priced at $220, this pair comes in a durable design made with smooth memory foam earpads for comfortability and a sturdy metal headband.

Though sturdy, I wouldn’t recommend frequent traveling with this pair of headphones because it has many parts made of plastic, plus it doens’t come with a decent travel case or pouch. For stationary use in your studio, no doubt it’s a studio headphone with a transparent and natural sound.

  • Go-to choice for comfortability and sound.
  • Perfect for detailed audio editing and mixing.

3 – Audio Technica ATH-M50X

Another big player for studio headphones comes from Audio Technica. One of the best-selling headphones online, the ATH-M50X is chosen by many because of its sound clarity in the mids and highs. You’ll find that the ATH-M50 also gives you that deep and accurate bass response.

Several extra key features that make it stand out, especially for DJ’s include a 90-degree swiveling ear cup design with 3 detachable cables – making it perfect for on the road usage and touring.

  • Popular for its great balanced sound.
  • Long-lasting design with replaceable cups and cables.
  • Closed-back headphones which are perfect for recording, tracking, and DJ-ing.

4 – Sony MDR 7506

The Sony MDR 7506 has been around since 1991. Popular for monitoring and tracking, these pair of headphones translate different frequency responses with clarity while producing a neutral, flat sound. As with most studio headphones, it also comes standard with a ¼ inch adapter, a foldable design and a decent headphone bag for storage. you can try this headphones on ps4 remote play mac as it was previously known as best headphone to generate awesome gaming experience on ps4 remote play apk.

These closed-back headphones might get a little uncomfortable after a long listening session, so don’t forget to take a break every now and then. However, with its price of $128, the Sony MDR 7506 gives you great monitoring and a great value for your money.

  • Has been around for quite some time now, praised for its neutral sound signature and durability.
  • You can trust a headphone that has been tried and tested through the years!
  • Closed-back headphones perfect for recording, mixing and mastering.
  • Can get uncomfortable when used for long listening sessions.

5 – Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro

Different from its open-back cousin, DT 990 Pro, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro is a nice closed-back studio headphone for recording, mixing and mastering. Available in 3 different impedances (30, 80, and 250 ohms), where you can choose to go with the model with higher impedance if you’re only going to monitoring in your studio. The high impedance models have better sound clarity, better bass definition, and a bigger soundstage.

However, if you travel a lot, getting the lower impedance headphones would make better sense – since even portable devices like your smartphone would be able to amp it.

Electronic Music Production Courses from

However, generally, all three models sound good and are well-suited for mixing and mastering work at the studio. It’s ear pads are also replaceable and amazingly comfortable.

  • Popular among music producers and audio engineers.
  • Known for its comfortability and sound accuracy.
  • Closed-back headphones perfect for recording, mixing and mastering.

How to choose the Best Laptops for Architecture in 2019

Unfortunately for architects (especially old timers), today’s architectural design and drafting are mostly done on computers.

Undoubtedly you’ll need either a desktop or a powerful laptop capable of handling the viewport of large models/designs in CAD software such as Revit, walkthroughs in 3DS Max and for the advanced version of “sketch up”, Rhino.

While professional architects may be able to get away with a desktop, architecture students have no other choice but to rely on a laptop since they’re constantly on the move.

This is only true for during their second year where  the old fashioned architecture tools are replaced by CAD software.

It doesn’t necessarily mean students & architects need to buy the most powerful, heaviest or even worse ultra expensive laptops out there as shown around other sites.

Sure it won’t hurt to buy these “expensive” workstations. Before you make that decision though, I advise all of you to quickly go over this article especially if you are a student or an architect starting with CAD.

Recommended Hardware for Architecture

The truth is, most of you do not need to spend 3000$ to have a capable laptop for any of architecture software.

If you do have the cash, you’re better off  investing on portability & design rather power you will never put to full use. This applies to some professional architects too.

By going through this post, especially the last section, you’ll be able to land a portable machine while avoiding the three most common mistakes architects make when shopping for laptops, which are:

  • Buying the wrong graphics card: this depends on additional plug-ins,software & the size of your projects.
  • Not having enough RAM.
  • Buying an awful display: A low resolution display won’t give you enough workspace and a very high resolution display will not scale up with your software: AutoDesk, 3DS Max , Maya, etc.

There are far more details to discus (especially for students) but I’ll leave that to the last section. For now let’s quickly go over the best laptop configuration for architecture you should aim for:

960MX or 1050GTX for Students. A 1060GTX and above for nearly all architects dealing with huge projects. A  Quadro/FirePro only for those dealing with plug-ins in Revit/3DS Max.

8GB RAM for students. 16-32GB for Architects.

+3GHz for drafting or drawing. Quad Core for rendering, unless rendering back home or using the cloud. If not rendering on your laptop, focus on clock speed only.

15” full HD for both. 17” preferably for architects unless you are moving from site to conferences all the time.

256GB SSD for students. 512GB or 256GB + 1TB HDD for Architects.

The most ideal weight is ~3lb unfortnately laptops with graphics card & just enough power for architecture software goes beyond that. Try to pick the ligthest you can afford.

*The above recommended specs will suite virtually all students out there. Architects dealing with huge collaborative projects however, should also consider reading my article on Revit  or 3ds max  to gain more insight into what exactly they might need for these kind of projects.

There is no denying that programming, executing code, and building applications is a rewarding experience. But without a powerful laptop, you will start to lose interest in it soon.

However, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get the best laptop for coding. Most of the common programming languages such as C++, C, and Java do not require powerful specifications, so you can easily pave your way through anyone listed above.

But if you work with the languages such as MongoDB, MATLAB or Python, you can skim through the list, weigh its pros and cons, and choose the one that works for you.

How to choose the Best Laptops For Hacking

Preamble out the way. Let’s get down to business….

The best laptop for hacking? Obviously it needs to look cool… with lots of skull stickers on it and lots of antennas sticking out.

No but seriously….Why is Cyber Security on the title?

Well, “black hat/malicious/real hacking” (exactly what you have in mind) is just a derivative of white hat/penetration testing (people who are hired by companies to find vulnerabilities in their systems and fix them before the hacks like you bring it down).

I obviously can’t just write a post encouraging to hack and tell you what kind of hardware you should get to start hacking. I would get into trouble myself.

So I am using Cyber Security/PenTesting as an excuse to tell you all you need to know about hacking systems and the hardware for it.

What will you find in this post?

First of all. I am assuming you just started your journey into jail and you are not a real hacker. If you were, you’d know by now that it’s more about knowledge/skills than hardware.
Real hackers can do some serious hacking with a raspberry pie. Yes, it sounds delicious but it’s actually a computer. The tiniest PC/laptop in existence today.

So yeah it doesn’t matter what laptop you use.

On the other hand…

There are laptops out there that can make hacking a bit easier but mostly they’ll make hack into systems much faster and that’s what you’ll find on this post.

What kind of hardware requirements does a computer tailored for hacking needs to have?

Before we get out hands dirty let me reiterate again:

This post is for informational purposes only and I do not encourage you to become a hacker. You can use this info to tinkle around with systems (hopefully your own), this is called “ethical hacking” or to start working against hackers in the future (Penn-testing).HardWare Requirements ( Best Laptop Specs for Hacking )

I’d recommend getting a laptop that has the ability to get on the Internet…and probably show graphics. Oh, having a keyboard and some USB ports are nice too.

No but seriously to give you the hardware specifications you need to know what a hacker (or pen-tester does) most of the time. All the details about hacking and these activities are outlined at the end of the section. For now I’ll just summarize it here:

1. Run virtual machines (even on top of virtual machines sometimes): most of the hardware will be tailored towards this.

2. Access to all programming environments and most languages: not much hardware this just meanst avoiding low-end cheap laptops & chromebooks. 3. Serious and heavy data crunching (for cracking passwords): you can do all of this with any laptop but a faster CPU & GPU comes in handy to make it go faster. The hardware requirements to do all the above: RAM

For a virtual penetration testing lab with at least 4-5VMs running: 16-32GB. If you aren’t doing that, you need at least 8GB because running Kali on a VM is a must.

Likewise for running several VMs, a late quad core or six core generation processor.
Ex: i7HQ-7000HQ i7-8750H. Password cracking/data crunching any quadcore processor helps a bit but it’s not required. Otherwise any other processor is fine.

To make brute force password cracking really fast. Get the most recent NVIDIA GPUs(gaming cards with cuda cores): 9xxGTM or even the 10X0 GTX series with as much vRAM & CUDA cores you can afford. The software for that uses NVIDIA GPUs are their primary memory resource.NetWork Adapter
A good WiFi card  employing the AC wireless protocol(important for getting into WEP secured networks/testing wifi for vulnerabilties):

Mouse (Optional)

When you are finding bugs and using tools, you need to move quickly and doing so via touch pad is not very efficient.

500GB (It does not matter a lot. Hackers don’t need a lot of space, unless you are hacking into triple A games – even that will get you into jail). Having  an SSD though, will make running VMs snappier. Plus you would also want a SSD or SSHD so you aren’t waiting for a spinning drive to accomplish your hackery.

How to choose the Best Laptops For Streaming

My story about Laptop for Live Streaming

I am a high school teacher. I have been teaching for 12 years. But now the teaching styles have changed and became easier. Live streaming has made my work much easier. Now I can teach my students by sitting in my home.

This thing is incredibly amazing that students learn more by this method. Actually, they take interest in learning like this. While talking about my students, they are learning great. And I am extremely happy that I have introduced the live streaming method to teach them.

From the last 3 years back, I heard about the live streaming method. Although I knew about this before. But I came to know that even teachers are live streaming to teach their students and this was a new thing for me. I also think that time that I should also start this.

Finally, I make up my mind and then, I decided and announced a specific time for my online streaming to the students. And they said, Ok respected teacher. Most of the children don’t want to study at this age. And it is quite funny that we all are also the same in our student lives. But believe me; the students took so much interest to study by this method that their progress has proved it to me.

When I look at all such progress and student’s interest, then I decided that I will continue streaming sessions. So, always in the specific evening timings, I give lessons to my students via live streaming. They enjoy it and listen to it very well. All my hard work on them becomes fruitful as I see their progress in the exam.

My student’s progress is a proud moment for me always.  Now, live streaming is my passion. I also make other live streaming videos on my YouTube channel besides teaching. This thing is not only amazing but interesting too.

Now, I love to do live streaming. People like my video content very much. If you ask me what if you have nothing to do in your life and you have to choose just one thing? I will damn sure that I will say that the only work would be live streaming because I just love it.

But live streaming is not just like a cake piece, you have to do a lot of struggle for sure. If you are also live streamer than definitely, you can understand it. First of all, you have to take the best laptop for perfect live streaming.

Things to consider when buying a laptop for live streaming

Buying a laptop that is dedicated for live streaming can be a hectic task for few. Here, I will share some of the most important things that you must keep in your mind when you are going to buy a laptop for live streaming.

As when I selected the laptop for doing live streaming, I look for all these things on that laptop and ultimately I found the best one. Now, it helps me to do the perfect live streaming.

Read it carefully. Here you go;

Best laptop for video editing

High-quality laptop

A high-quality laptop will allow for high-quality live streaming.  A good quality laptop definitely has the various outclass features that help in perfect streaming. Otherwise, a low-quality laptop will cause multiple problems. Make sure that your laptop is of a good company.

Now, when I say a high-quality laptop, it does not mean that it has to be expensive. You should focus on the following things when you make a final call. I have explained all these important factors in detail here:

The major thing for live streaming is the web camera of your laptop.  You must take a laptop with the best webcam. It should have a great resolution, good megapixels, and a full D webcam. These things will make the web camera perfect for streaming.

Besides the perfect webcam, you should also sit in a proper lightening for smooth live streaming. Without a decent webcam, there is no purpose of doing a live stream. I recommend whenever you buy a laptop for live streaming, always access and read details about the camera.

Thanks to the latest technology, now we can enjoy full HD while we stream on these amazing laptops.

Built-in microphones

The webcam must have the built-in microphones for clear transmission of your voice.  Yet, check for the sound card and mixer so that you can set the sound levels by your own.  A laptop must have crystal clear audio so that there is no barrier when you do streaming.

Video installing software

You must also have the video installing the software on your device.  Yet, if it is not pre-installed, you can install it on your laptop yourself. There is a variety of options available, I will leave it up to you to select the best for your laptop.

Good RAM

Good RAM is also another important thing to look for. You will be able to do quick multi-tasking in front of someone when sharing the screen with them. It will not let the speed of the system down.

Your laptop will keep working fast, even if you have opened too many windows and doing various tasks at the same time.

Fast processor

A fast processor is basically the need of every laptop. Not only the laptop for live streaming but also laptops for other purposes should have a fast processor. I think that there is no fun if your laptop is having a slow processor.

A slow processor means you will waste a lot of your time on your laptop. Make sure that the laptop processor is good and is having high speed.  The fast processor will make everything fast, even multi-tasking, loading things fast, quick downloads, editing the videos with great ease, etc.

openSUSE is available in 2 release types: Tumbleweed – a rolling release version which is always updated with the latest improvements, bug fixes, and new features.

And Leap – a regular-release version that gets updated periodically. Generally, you should use Tumbleweed if you want in on the latest updates to openSUSE and don’t mind struggling with bugs every now and then, and use Leap if you would rather manually update your system only when you are ready for whatever new changes in the pipeline.

10. Deepin

Deepin is a beautiful Linux distro devoted to providing its users with a consistently beautiful Operating System that is secure, easy to use, and reliable to work with. It was formerly based on Ubuntu until its code was rewritten to be based on Debian.

Deepin is my favorite pick in this list because of how seamlessly every aspect of the OS works. Ever since it reached an important milestone with the release of 15.7 when it optimized its ISO image size, RAM usage, extended battery life, etc., Deepin has never been better.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
